NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Congratulates Endorsed Candidates on Election Victories
NARAL Members Were Early Supporters of Several House and Statewide Candidates
St. Paul, MN – NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota today congratulated pro-choice candidates who won victories across Minnesota last night. Executive Director Andrea Ledger issued the following statement:
“Donald Trump is leading an unprecedented attack on reproductive rights at the federal level. Last night, Minnesota voters sent the message that we will stand up to the Trump agenda and elect leaders who are champions for reproductive freedom. Governor-elect Tim Walz and Lieutenant Governor-elect Peggy Flanagan have never wavered in their support for abortion rights and we can count on them to protect access to the full range of reproductive health care options in Minnesota,” said NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota Executive Director Andrea Ledger. “We look forward to working with Attorney General-elect Keith Ellison, who has vowed to enforce our state constitutional protection of abortion rights. We stand ready to work with newly elected pro-choice legislators to expand access to contraception and protect our reproductive health clinics in Minnesota.”
Pro-choice candidates were elected up and down the ballot with Tina Smith, Angie Craig, Dean Phillips at the top of the ticket, to dozens of seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives all winning last night. They defeated incumbents whose positions opposing contraceptive access and abortion rights were out of step with their constituents.
NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, in collaboration with NARAL Pro-Choice America, spoke with thousands of pro-choice voters in 2018 on behalf of NARAL-endorsed candidates. NARAL members reminded voters of what is at stake if Roe v. Wade is gutted and why it is so important to keep Minnesota a stronghold of reproductive freedom. Up and down the ticket, Minnesotans made their opinions clear—this is a state that supports abortion rights.
With over 60,000 members statewide, NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota aims to develop and sustain a constituency that uses the political process to guarantee every woman the right to make personal decisions regarding the full range of reproductive choices, including preventing unintended pregnancy, bearing healthy children, and choosing legal abortion. NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota is a state affiliate of NARAL Pro-Choice America.
