Pro-choice candidates were elected up and down the ballot with Tina Smith, Angie Craig, Dean Phillips at the top of the ticket to dozens of seats in the Minnesota House of Representatives. They defeated incumbents whose positions opposing contraceptive access and abortion rights were out of step with their constituents. NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota, in collaboration with NARAL Pro-Choice America, spoke with thousands of pro-choice voters in 2018 on behalf of NARAL-endorsed candidates. NARAL members reminded voters of what is at stake if Roe v. Wade is gutted and why it is so important to keep Minnesota a stronghold of reproductive freedom. Up and down the ticket, Minnesotans made their opinions clear—this is a state that supports abortion rights.
Erik Paulsen's recent attack ads directed towards Dean Phillips are grossly inaccurate. While Dean Phillips stands with the 7 in 10 Americans who believe that abortion should remain safe and legal, Erik Paulsen is proudly anti-choice and sides with Donald Trump and GOP allies who want nothing more than to see Roe v. Wade gutted and overturned. Standing up for women starts with respecting a woman’s right to make decisions about her own body and Dean Phillips has been a true champion for women on this issue.
Congressman Walz and Representative Flanagan have both demonstrated unwavering support for abortion access during their time representing Minnesotans. We know we can count on them to prioritize reproductive freedom and block legislation that would limit the right to choose.
Anti-choice legislators and interest groups are targeting Universities that offer abortion medical training. The recent University of Minnesota decision to delay the start of a reproductive rights advocacy fellowship caused state-wide concern that anti-choice politics were infiltrating the classroom.
NARAL Pro-Choice Minnesota rallies to protect reproductive freedom. Minnesotans will not be silenced by Trump’s SCOTUS nominee.
