Why Transgender Visibility Matters
Each year on March 31st, Transgender Visibility Day offers us a vital opportunity to uplift the voices, experiences, and rights of transgender and non-binary people in our community. Today we recommit ourselves to building a world where all people, regardless of gender identity, can access the care, dignity, and respect they deserve.
Visibility isn’t just about being seen—it’s about being understood, respected, and valued. Transgender and non-binary people face disproportionate barriers in accessing healthcare, including reproductive care. Transphobia, misinformation, and systemic discrimination often stand in the way of essential medical services, including gender-affirming care, birth control, abortion, fertility treatments, and prenatal care.
Today is a powerful reminder that our healthcare systems must be inclusive and affirming of everyone who needs reproductive care—not just cisgender women. That includes transgender men, nonbinary individuals, and anyone who can get pregnant, whose identities are too often left out of the conversation.
True visibility goes beyond celebration. It demands that we:
Challenge harmful narratives that erase or invalidate transgender identities.
Protect access to healthcare for transgender individuals, especially in the face of increasing political attacks on gender-affirming care.
Build intersectional coalitions that center those most impacted by reproductive oppression—including BIPOC, low-income, LGBTQ+, and disabled communities.
Hold space for trans voices within our movements, ensuring leadership and lived experience guide our advocacy.
We see you. We celebrate you. We fight alongside you.
