Pro-Choice Minnesota Responds as SCOTUS Takes on Landmark FDA Abortion Pill Case
Minneapolis, MN - October 11, 2023 - Official Statement from Maggie Meyer, Executive Director, Pro-Choice Minnesota:
"They're at it again. The Supreme Court's decision to hear the challenge to abortion pill access puts us on the brink of yet another critical battle for reproductive rights. This move could severely limit access to medication abortion, a crucial option used in over half of all abortions in the US.
Mifepristone is and will remain accessible in states where abortion is legal until the Court reaches a decision.
We have worked hard to ensure the right to abortion is protected in Minnesota. The science backs medication abortion; mifepristone is safe and effective at 95-97%. Let's be clear – the national threat to medication abortion is completely politically motivated.
Banning Mifepristone/Mifeprex access via telemedicine will disproportionately impact those already facing medical disparities along the lines of geography, race, gender, and income. We urge the United States Supreme Court to trust patients and providers. We won't stand idly by as access to safe and effective reproductive healthcare is jeopardized."
