Pro-Choice Minnesota Campus Organizer and St. Cloud State University student, Lydia Krueger, introduced First Lady Dr. Jill Biden during a Women for Biden event in Bloomington Friday evening.

During her speech, while reflecting on the day Roe v. Wade was overturned in 2022, Lydia remarked, "That day, I emailed Pro-Choice Minnesota and I asked if they had any open positions, and I have been organizing on my campus ever since."

Asha Hassan, MPH, is a health services researcher working at the University of Minnesota Center for Antiracism Research for Health Equity (CARHE). In 2020, Asha was named a Society of Family Planning Emerging Scholar, and in 2021 a National Birth Equity Research Scholar. Her academic writing is published in several top health journals including, "Advancing Birth Equity in a Post-Dobbs US", published in Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA).

Championing choice is key to victories in Minnesota elections.

Since the overturn of Roe in 2022, the pro-choice majority has made great progress. We established the fundamental right to abortion in Minnesota. We repealed many of our state's restrictions on abortion care. And we know that the majority of Minnesotans support choice and our efforts to protect it.

However, Minnesota is an island of abortion access in the upper Midwest. Our clinics are currently overwhelmed with out-of-state patients and anti-choice politicians are betting on us losing momentum, stepping back, and staying on the sidelines in 2024.

How it started:

Shortly after Roe allowed abortion clinics to open across the nation in 1973, I was hired to work at the front desk at Meadowbrook Women’s Clinic to make appointments and greet patients.

I met all of my best friends there…these women are still my best friends 50 years later. It was a coming of age experience that we all shared.

My name is Hayley and I serve on the Pro-Choice Minnesota Foundation Board. As the Board’s resident running enthusiast, I’m here to get you from registration to race day.

When patients show up for their appointments, Pro-Choice Minnesota escorts are waiting outside to support them. We get them past those protestors. We get patients through the driveway before protestors have the opportunity to shove any propaganda through their windows. We flank patients’ sides, and walk them into the clinic so that they have to see and hear as little of those screams as possible. Rain, shine, or blizzard - we show up. The protestors? Not going to stop us. We’re here for you, and we’re not going anywhere.

Art Salon VIII was a night to remember, and we couldn't have done it without our incredible members who came together to make a masterpiece of solidarity. Attendees enjoyed viewing the Art Salon VIII gallery, bidding on art, and contributing to the solidarity art piece. It was heartwarming to witness the piece transform throughout the evening as attendees made their mark for reproductive freedom.

“We had the Pro-Choice Minnesota voter guides, and the day of the election people were emailing me and members of the group directly, and were saying “Hey, send me the voter guide, I’m in the booth right now,” and it was like, okay people see us, people know what we’re doing. It was very cool to see people reaching out and they wanted to vote pro-choice and wanted to know who they vote for from us.”
